Run It Like a Lab
Every good alchemist kept a notebook. The 25 gallon EZ Kit gives you plenty of room to work, and the best way to get to know a still this size is to treat every session as an experiment you record. It's the Advanced Model, with an EZ Seal Cap and a 4 inch thumper port, and it's a kit you put together yourself.
The Build, in Order
- Clear a large, well-lit workspace. A pot this size needs room around it.
- Inventory the parts and dry-fit the assembly from the pot upward.
- Solder one joint at a time and let each one cool before handling it.
- Finish by seating the EZ Seal Cap and checking the thumper port connection.
The Water Test
Your first run should be water only. A pot this size takes time to come up to temperature, so be patient and raise the heat in steps. Watch every joint for moisture and listen for any hiss. If something weeps, let the still cool completely, then fix the joint before you go further.
Start a Run Log
Write down the date, the fill level, your heat settings, and the time each stage begins. Note anything you see, hear, or smell. After a few runs, patterns show up, and that's when you stop guessing and start controlling the process.
Care Between Runs
Rinse, drain, and dry the still completely. Store it with the cap off and inspect the joints before each new session.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, so follow federal, state, and local law. Questions? Call 603-997-6786.
