What the Thumper Port Is For
The 20 gallon EZ Kit has a 4 inch thumper port. A thumper, also called a doubler, is a vessel that vapor passes through on its way to the condenser. Inside it, vapor bubbles through liquid, picks up heat, and re-vaporizes. The thump you hear is the sound of that experiment working. Having the port built in gives you a place to connect one and study how it changes your run.
Assembly Notes
- Organize your parts by where they sit in the vapor path, from pot to condenser.
- Dry-fit the full assembly so you can trace how vapor will travel.
- Solder carefully around the thumper port. It's a key junction in the vapor path.
- Check that the EZ Seal Cap seats cleanly before your first heat.
Walking Through a First Run
Start with water. Bring the heat up gradually and keep your eyes on the whole system. Notice when the pot starts producing vapor, how long it takes to reach the thumper, and when the condenser begins to work. Write down times and heat settings. Those notes become your baseline. Every future run is compared against them, the same way a scientist compares results to a control.
After the Run
Let everything cool, then rinse the pot, the thumper connection, and the lines. Dry everything fully before storage. A clean still gives you consistent results.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, so always follow federal, state, and local law. Talk to the family shop at 603-997-6786.
