A thumper sits in the middle of your setup, between the pot and the condenser. Hot vapor runs through it on the way out. If you think of your still as a small lab, the thumper is the stage where you get one more chance to shape what comes out. This listing is for the copper thumper by itself. It's for anyone replacing a worn one, upgrading a still they already own, or building a custom copper rig piece by piece.
What's in the box
You get the copper thumper only. No pot, column, cone, condenser, or accessories are included. It's built from pure copper, made for durability and long-term use, and comes in 3, 6, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 gallon sizes. Prices start at $299. Buying just the part you need keeps a build affordable.
Walkthrough: adding a thumper to your rig
- Pick a size that suits the pot you already run. If you're unsure, call the shop at 603-997-6786.
- Dry-fit every connection before you apply any heat. Look for gaps and make sure the vapor path runs pot → thumper → condenser.
- Do a water-only test run first. Watch for leaks, and get a feel for how the heat moves through the system.
- Write down what you see. Good experiments start with good notes.
Keeping the copper bright
Copper darkens with use and air. That's normal. After each run, rinse the thumper well and let it dry completely. A mild acid wash, such as vinegar or citric acid, takes off tarnish when you want it shiny again. Look over the joints from time to time as part of your regular maintenance.
Many builders pair a separate copper thumper with a pot they already have or a DIY condenser. Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, so follow all federal, state, and local laws.
