Cuts are where distilling turns into science. Your nose and taste matter, but a hydrometer gives you a number. This set measures both alcohol by volume (ABV) and proof, so you can compare one jar to the next with confidence instead of guessing.
What's in the Set
- Proof & Tralle hydrometer
- Glass test jar
- Protective storage tube
- Easy-to-read scale markings
A Quick Reading Walkthrough
Fill the glass test jar with enough liquid for the hydrometer to float freely. Lower the hydrometer in gently and give it a slight spin so it doesn't stick to the side. Once it settles, read the scale at the surface of the liquid. The markings are easy to read, so you can log a number quickly and move on.
Using It When Making Cuts
Collect your output in small, numbered jars and take a reading from each one. Write it down. Over a few runs you'll see how proof changes through the run, and that record helps you make better decisions next time. Change one thing, measure it, and learn from it.
Care and Storage
Rinse the hydrometer and test jar after each use, let them dry, and keep the hydrometer in its protective tube. The instruments are lab-tested for accuracy, and careful handling keeps them that way.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires federal (TTB) permits. Follow federal, state and local law.
