This one is for builders. The EZ Kit Bare is the lowest-cost way into a real copper distiller, because you do the soldering yourself. We do the hard part at our shop: the copper body parts are pre-cut and formed into cylinders, so they arrive ready to clamp and solder. It is not flat stock. You get the copper and the pipe. Everything else is up to you.
What's in the Box
- Formed copper body components, pre-cut and shaped
- Copper pipe and tubing
What You Need to Source
- Solder and flux
- Clamps, tools and a torch
- Gaskets, seals, gauges and accessories
- All fittings, including a temperature gauge
The Build Walkthrough
Start with a dry fit. Clamp the formed pieces together and check every seam before you light the torch. Clean the copper where the joints will go, flux it, and solder one seam at a time. Let each joint cool before you move to the next. When the body is done, fit the pipe and your own fittings to suit the setup you want. Choosing your own configuration is half the fun of this kit.
Prove It With Water
Once it's built, do a water-only run. Heat slowly and look for leaks at every seam you made. Any weak joint will give itself away here.
Is This Kit Right for You?
Yes, if you're comfortable soldering copper and want the most savings. No, if you're expecting a finished or semi-finished distiller, plug-and-play gear, or you haven't soldered before.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol requires a federal (TTB) permit. Follow federal, state and local law.
